The Flyer

In 1937, the 20th Century Club began a fund-raising tradition with the help of members, husbands, community members, friends, and anybody who could sing, dance, act, or tell a joke.

The Jerome Cargill Company of New York, a company that traveled the country producing follies shows, was contracted to guide our efforts. The local production was named "The 20th Century Flyer," named for a train that traveled across the country at that time. The Cargill Company provided the songs, dances, skits, and costumes. This was the start of a long relationship with the community and the 20th Century Club to raise money for Camp O'Bannon and other club projects.

Due to World War II, the Flyer was produced sporadically, but since 1952 the Flyer has been held every two years. Each biennial event has raised as much as $40,000 for the Club's projects. The Flyer has grown form a few Club members to a cast of about 100 talented people, the majority being members of the Licking County community.

The Flyer is currently produced by Matthew Trombetta. We are pleased to have as our new director for the 2010 Flyer!

The 20th Century Club advertises a "Meet the Director Party" which provides community members with an outline of the show including roles available for singers, dancers, actors, comedians, set designers, and other behind-the-scenes jobs.

Three weeks of intense rehearsals follow. The musical show is presented at Newark High School Auditorium. All those who join us are guaranteed to have fun while raising money for a good cause!
